Vantage hosts a "Mock Interview Day" for each of our Seniors each year on the same day as our Juniors take the ACT test. Seniors must all participate in the mock interviews and are graded in both their English classes (resume' building, cover letter, interviewing, etc...) and in their labs (employability). Seniors are only required to show up during their 30 minute interview period, then are excused for the rest of the day. This day is a great opportunity for students to practice for interviews with real professionals from the industry they've chosen at Vantage. It is also an awesome chance for Vantage to establish and build relationships with our local employers. We have already had many students who participate in a Mock Interview with an employer in their field, then are offered a real interview and get a job with that employer shortly thereafter.
Our group will present on the planning of this date (including reaching out to employers to volunteer their time to conduct interviews), preparation from the teachers' perspective, as well as scheduling rooms for interviews around the conflicts of Juniors' ACT testing. We will also speak to the benefits our students receive from these experiences, as well as those the employers have shared with us, and how this day helps Vantage as a whole.
